SCADA & Control Systems – Security before and after Stuxnet

There has been increasing media coverage of SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) recognising its importance to the national infrastructure. The presentation will cover the differences in control systems, e.g. SCADA v Process Control, it will focus on the security challenges of operating complex, often real time, systems against an increasing level of threat capability. There will be an introduction to industry standards and a view on threats, vulnerabilities and solutions to understand and manage the security risks of this challenging environment.

Karl is a Principal Consultant with over 20 years experience in security, critical and national infrastructure, IT and Telecoms. He has developed a detailed understanding of the Cyber security challenges facing SCADA, industrial control and safety systems.

Previously he was with Invensys, and before that with the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI) where he led SCADA and Control Systems technical security and research for the UK Government’s infrastructure protection programme.

He has presented at many conferences and written a number of security articles for industry publications.
